First Quarter:  Earth Science

 

 

 

 

 

In the first quarter students will explore the structure, composition, and classification of rocks and minerals.  Students will also explore the fossil record and relate specific fossils to the geologic time scale.  Plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes will also be explored.

Second Quarter:  Astronomy

 

 

 

 

 

During the second quarter we will explore the features of the universe.  Students will investigate how technology has increased what we currently know about the universe and its features.  Constellations, galaxies, and the lifecycles of stars will be studied.  Students will also explore the sun, the planets, and other objects in the Solar System

Third Quarter:  Life Science (Microorganisms, Fungi, and Plants)

 

 

 

 

 

The third quarter really brings life to the science classroom.  During the third quarter students  will explore a variety of living things. Students will study microscopy and learn how viruses, bacteria, protists, and fungi affect our daily lives.  They will also learn the characteristics of plants while conducting plant growth  and development experiments during the third quarter.. 

Fourth Quarter:  Life Science  (Animals)

 

 

 

 

 

During the fourth quarter students  will explore animal behaviors.  Students will learn the classification system and study selected specimens for each of the following animal groups:  invertebrates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
