Game Updates
May 31: The regional final brought a familiar opponent to Hortonville in the Waupaca Comets. The Polar Bears swept the Comets in a double header earlier in the season, but the Comets were a much improved team on Friday. In the top of the first the Comets loaded the bases with no one out. Clean-up hitter Shawn Peskie popped out the right field, then first baseman Mitch Larson singled to center to drive in the first run of the game. Polar Bear starter, Bryan Linsmeyer minimized the damage by getting Andy Rohloff to pop out to first and then striking out Mike Solberg to end the inning. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th when Andrew Lambie and Matt Holman walked with one out. Bruce Dahl then hit a ball to second baseman Travis Holat, who threw to second for the force out, but shortstop Tyler Goggins throw was wild allowing Andrew Lambie to score from second. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 10th when with one out, Adam Bellile reached on a throwing error by third baseman Shawn Peskie. Jeremy Mulroy pinch ran for Bellile and stole second base. After a strikeout by Zach Captain, Senior right fielder Dan Wunderlich singled home Mulory, giving the Polar Bears a 2-1 win and a regional championship. Bryan Linsmeyer started the game for the Polar Bears going 6 innings giving up 1 run and striking out 9. Ben Reigel picked up his 5th win of the year by pitching 4 innings of 1 hit baseball. The Polar Bears take on Appleton West on Tuesday at 11:00 in Sectional play at Kimberly.
May 21: The varsity lost to Clintonville 5-3. The Polar Bears scored three times in the first inning, but couldn't manage a hit the rest of the game. The Polar Bears ended conference with an 11-3 mark, which was good for 2nd place in the league.
The JV team defeated Clintonville by a score of 8-1. The win improves their record to 12-2 in conference and 14-4 overall.
The Freshman Polar Bears defeated Seymour by a score of 8-3. The freshmen are now 11-3 overall.
May 18: The freshman team improved to 10-3 with an 11-3 victory over Waupaca. Tim Sambs fired a 72 pitch complete game to pick up the victory. Casey Breidel was 4x4 with a 3B and 4 RBIs and Brad Leeman was 3x3.
May 17: Again all three teams were in action on Thursday. The varsity Polar Bears stayed one game behind conference leading FVL by traveling to Little Chute and coming away with an 11-1 victory. Bryan Linsmeyer won his 5th game of the season by pitching 5 strong innings. At the plate, Matt Holman lead the Polar Bear attack by connecting on two doubles and driving in 5 runs. The Polar Bears move to 15-3 overall and 11-2 in Valley 8 play.
The JV Polar Bears won 22-8 at Little Chute. The JV record is now 13-4 overall and 11-2 in conference.
The freshman team played Bayport in a double header at Commercial Club Park on Thursday night. The freshman dropped the first game 5-2, but then came back in the night cap with a 6-5 victory. The freshman record now stands at 9-3.
May 14: All three teams were in action on Monday. The varsity picked up a 5-4 non-conference victory over the New London Bulldogs. Zach Captain pitched 4 innings to earn the victory and Matt Holman and Andrew Lambie each collected two hits to pace the Polar Bears offense. The Polar Bears are now 14-3 overall.
The JV dropped a non-conference game against Appleton North by a 6-4 score. No other details were available.
The freshman pounded out 12 hits in route to a 17-7 victory over Appleton East. Casey Breidel was 2x3, 2B, 3B and 3 RBIs. Scott Carslon and Eric Shepperd also added two hits. Carlson also picked up the win. The Polar Bears are now 8-2.
May 12: The varsity and JV Polar Bears played doubleheaders against Freedom in Valley 8 action on Saturday. Both teams came away with sweeps. The varsity won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0. In the first game, Bryan Linsmeyer was the story as the senior right-hander pitched a complete game. Linsmeyer struck out 12 while walking 1 batter. In game two, pitching was also the story as junior left hander Ben Reigel pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 13 while walking 2.
The JV team swept their double header by the scores of 4-1 and 11-1. Luke Cismoski picked up the win in game 1 and Tim Sambs picked up the win in game 2.
May 10: The freshman team broke a two game losing streak by defeating Clintonville by a 7-3 score. Garrett Hoewisch pitched 5.2 innings to pick up the victory. Brad Leeman and Scott Carlson had two hits each to lead the Polar Bears offense. The freshman team is now 7-2 overall.
May 8: The Polar Bears bounced back from yesterdays tough loss with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Oconto Falls. Bryan Linsmeyer was the star of the game for the Polar Bears. He pitched a complete game giving up one run while striking out 8. He also provided the key hit with a bases loaded double in the 5th inning that drove in all three Polar Bear runs on the day. The Polar Bears are 8-2 in conference play and 11-3 overall.
The JV team continued its winning ways with a 5-1 victory over Oconto Falls. Charlie Konetzke pitched a complete game while striking out 12 to pick up the victory. The JV team is 8-2 in conference and 10-3 overall.
May 7: The Polar Bears varsity squad lost a heartbreaker 5-4 in 10 innings to Fox Valley Lutheran. The Polar Bears lead 4-1 going into the 6th inning, but were unable to hold the lead as the Foxes scored three times to tie the game. The Polar Bears had a couple of chances in extra innings, including Curtis Much being thrown out at home plate after a base hit by Adam Bellile to end the ninth inning..
The JV Polar Bears beat Appleton North 8-0 highlighted by a no-hitter pitched by sophomore Luke Cismoski. Freshman Bruce Daul homered for the Polar Bears to provide the offensive spark.
May 5: The varsity and JV teams took on Oshkosh North on Saturday. Both came away with victories. The varsity by a score of 8-2 and the JVs by the score of 7-6 in 8 innings. The varsity Polar Bears scored two runs in the first inning led by a double from Dan Wunderlich and a triple from Bryan Linsmeyer. The Polar Bears put the game away in the 6th by scoring 4 times. Curtis Much started things with a lead off double, Dan Wunderlich doubled in two runs and Adam Bellile had an RBI single in the inning. Josh Ernst picked up his third victory of the season by pitching two scoreless innings in relief of starter Chase Drath.
May 3: The JV squad split a double header with Appleton Xavier. They dropped the first game 6-4 and won the night cap by a score of 3-1. Their record now stands at 7-2 in conference and 7-3 overall.
The freshman Polar Bears lost their 2nd game of the season to Green Bay Preble by a score of 15-5. Their record is 6-2 overall.
May 2: The Polar Bears needed 10 innings to come away with a victory over Xavier. The Polar Bears took a 4-0 lead after the top of the 3rd, but Xavier scored 3 in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to 2 Polar Bear errors. The score remained that way until the bottom of the 7th when Xavier tied the game and had bases loaded with only 1 out, but failed to score. In the 10th, the Polar Bears scored 7 times to break the game open. The rally was keyed by singles by Matt Holman, Lucas Smith, and Curtis Much to lead off the inning. Ben Reigel picked up his 2nd victory of the season with 3 scoreless innings in relief.
May 1: The varsity game at FVL was postponed due to bad field conditions at FVL. The game will be made up Monday May 7 at 3:30 at FVL.
The JV avenged their only conference loss of the season with a 3-2 victory over FVL. Luke Cismoski pitched 6 strong innings for the Polar Bears to pick up the win. Charlie Konetzke pitched the 7th inning to get the save. The Polar Bears are 6-1 in conference and 6-2 overall.
April 30: The freshman game at Waupaca was rained out. It will be made up Friday May 18.
April 28: In non-conference action, the varsity Polar Bears traveled to Kaukana and came away with an 8-7 victory. At the plate Dan Wunderlich was 2x3 with a homerun and 4 RBIs and Bryan Linsmeyer was 2x4. Charlie Koeppl drove in the winning run on a fielders choice in the top of the 7th inning. Zach Captain picked up his 1st victory of the year by pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
April 27: The varsity dropped their first conference game of the year to the Clintonville Truckers by a score of 4-0. Luke Westphal blanked the Polar Bears by scattering 5 hits while walking 2. Bryan Linsmeyer pitched a complete game for the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears dropped to 6-1 in conference and 7-2 overall. The Bears have a half game lead over FVL, setting up a big show down on Tuesday.
The JV squad squad upped its conference record to 5-1 with a 3-2 victory over Clintonville.
April 24: The varsity Polar Bears battled the rain and a pesky Little Chute Mustang team on Tuesday night. The Polar Bears came away with a 9-4 victory. Trailing 2-0 in the 3rd inning, the Polar Bears scored 4 times, keyed by a single by Zach Captain and a double by Brian Linsmeyer. Little Chute battled back to tie the score in the top of the 4th. In the top of the 5th, the Polar Bears took the lead for good on a two out single by Adam Bellile to plate Dan Wunderlich. The Polar Bears put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 6th with runs scoring on RBI single by Captain and Linsmeyer and two runners scoring on wild pitches. Josh Ernst picked up his 2nd victory of the season with 3 strong innings in relief. The Polar Bears are now 6-0 in Valley Eight play and 7-1 overall.
The JV team picked up a 17-7 victory versus Little Chute.
April 23: The freshman Polar Bears suffered their first loss on the season with a 10-4 loss to Stevens Point. They hope to rebound on Thursday as they host Denmark.
April 21: The varsity Polar Bears swept Waupaca in a double header on Saturday to remain undefeated and in first place in the Valley 8. Game 1 saw Bryan Linsmeyer dominate as the senior pitched a complete game. Linsmeyer stuck out 10 while giving up 3 hits and 1 walk in the 6-1 win. The key blow for the Polar Bears was a bases loaded double by Charlie Koeppl that drove in 3 runs. Linsmeyer and Dan Wunderlich had two hits each for the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears completed the sweep with a 10-6 victory. The Polar Bears thought they had put the game away with a 5 run 4th inning to take an 8-2 lead, but Waupaca wouldn't quit as the scored 4 in the top of the 5th to get the score back to 8-6. The Polar Bears added two insurance runs in the 6th to put the game out of reach. Leading the way at the plate in game two was Bryan Linsmeyer, who was 3x4 with 2 RBIs and Adam Bellile, who was 2x3 with 2 RBIs. Justin Reiland pitched 4 1/3 innings to pick up his first victory of the season. Josh Ernst pitched 1 1/3 innings and Ben Reigel pitched the last inning to pick up his 2nd save.
April 20: Playing back to back nights, the freshman Polar Bears took on Green Bay Preble and picked up a 12-6 victory. The Bears struggled defensively, committing 7 errors, but picked up the slack offensively by pounding out 13 hits. Brad Leeman led the way by going 3x3 with 2 RBIs. Scott Carlson, Casey Breidel and Alex Neyers added two hits each. Tim Sambs picked up the victory pitching 3 innings and Carlson pitched the last two to notch his third save of the season. The freshman Polar Bears are now 6-0.
April 19: The freshman team traveled to Clintonville and came away with a 15-4 victory. Alex Neyers pitched 3 innings to pick up the victory and added 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Garrett Hoewisch and Luke Baehman also had two hits. Eric Shepperd pitched the last two innings in relief as the Polar Bears upped their record to 5-0.
April 17 The Polar Bear Baseball Program picked up a pair of wins last night as the Varsity won 7-3 at Oconto Falls and the JV won 6-4 at Hortonville. At Oconto Falls, Junior Ben Reigel picked up the win in relief of starter Chase Drath, throwing 4 1/3 innings of hitless relief, striking out nine. The Polar Bears were led at the plate by Dan Wunderlich, who went 3×4 with 2 RBI, catcher Matt Holman was 2×3, and Andrew Lambie went 2×4.
The JV used a 5-run 5th inning rally highlighted by Bruce Daul’s 2-run single and Luke Cismoski’s run scoring double to pick up their first win of the year. Charlie Konetzke picked up the win on the mound pitching the first four innings. Cismoski pitched the final 3 innings, not allowing a hit, to pick up the save.
April 16: All three Polar Bear teams were in action on Monday. The varsity traveled to Green Bay Preble where they came away with a 10-7 victory to move the Polar Bears to 3-1 overall. Leading the Polar Bears at the plate were Dan Wunderlich, who was 3-3 with 6 RBIs and Charlie Koeppl, who was 3-3 with 2 runs scored. The JV Bears also traveled to Green Bay Preble where they dropped a tough 7-6 game in 8 innings. The freshman Polar Bears hosted Waupaca and rallied from a 6 run deficit in the 6th inning to win 7-6 in 9 innings. Scott Carlson keyed the Bears win with a strong 5 inning pitching performance in relief. This upped their record to 4-0.
April 13: After a morning of unloading snow off the Commercial Club playing surface, the Varsity Polar Bears were able to play the Xavier Hawks in Valley 8 action. The Polar Bears broke open a 3-2 game in the 5th, as they tallied 6 runs to put the game away. The Polar Bears finally got their bats going this season as they pounded out 14 hits led by Zach Captain (3x4, 2 RBIs), Ben Reigel (2x2), Matt Holman (2x3), Dan Wunderlich (2x3) and Charlie Koeppl (2x3). Bryan Linsmeyer went 4 1/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season and Ben Reigel pitched out of a 5th inning jam and went the final 2 2/3 innings striking out 6 to pick up the save. The JV and freshman games were postponed due to field conditions. No make-up dates have been announced.
April 12: Today's games vs. Xavier have been snowed out.
April 10: The JV was finally able to play a game. Unfortunately, they were blanked by Fox Valley Lutheran 6-0. The freshman traveled to Denmark, where they came out victorious by the score of 7-5. The freshman Polar Bears got strong pitching performances from Casey Breidel, who went 4 innings to pick up his first win of the year. Scott Carlson pitched the last three innings to pick up his 2nd save of the season. Carlson also paced the offense by picking up 2 hits. The freshman are now 3-0 on the year.
April 9: The varsity squad opened Valley 8 play with a 2-1 victory over pre-season conference favorite Fox Valley Lutheran. The Polar Bears received strong pitching performances from juniors Chase Drath, who allowed 1 run in 3 innings and Ben Reigel, who went 4 innings without allowing a run to pick up his first varsity win. Adam Bellile provided the Polar Bears key hit, with a two out single off FVL's Jon Gulbransen to drive in the only two runs of the game. The win ups the Polar Bears record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference. The JV game at FVL was snowed out. They will try to make it up on Tuesday, April 10.
April 5: Today's games: Varsity @ Oshkosh North, JV vs. Oshkosh North, and 9th @ Bayport have all been postponed. No make-up dates have been scheduled yet.
April 2: Today's V-JV games @ Kaukauna have been postponed. The games have been rescheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m.
March 31: The Polar Bear's freshman team went to Waupun on Saturday and took two games by the scores of 7-1 and 6-0. The team was lead in game one by strong pitching performances from Tim Sambs, who pitched 4 strong innings to pick up the win, and Scott Carlson added 3 innings to pick up the save. In game 2, the Bears again had some nice pitching as Mike Boushley went three innings striking out 4 without walking a batter. Alex Neyers picked up the win in relief by going two innings without allowing a hit or a walk. At the plate Bruce Daul and Alex Griesbach each had two RBI's. Game two was shortened to 5 innings because of lightening.
March 27: The Polar Bears Varsity traveled to Waupun to open the 2007 campaign. Their bats were silenced as only Josh Ernst was able to manage a hit as the Polar Bears were blanked 4-0.
