Text Box: Hello students and parents! Wow– it’s already the last full week of classes! This week we’ll be continuing our economics unit, looking at labor unions. We’ll view the Disney movie Newsies, which depicts the formation of labor unions by news boys at the turn of the century. We’ll have a guest speaker on Wednesday, my husband Mr. Metzler. He’ll be talking to the kids about running his own business and the differences between single proprietorships and different types of corporations, which fits right in with our unit! His family business has been both a single proprietorship and a corporation over the course of the development of their 5 restaurants. He’ll also talk about high school and college classes that help with entrepreneurship, while balancing sports and academics. We’ll also continue our study of Central America with learning about Costa Rica. Our goal is to be communicating with students from Costa Rica using the VPALS network to learn about their country and culture.
