Dear Parents,
As part of our Invention Projects (see attached) in language, your student has chosen the presentation option of creating a website with his/her group to advertise his/her invention. As part of our goal to give students opportunities to work with 21st century skills, we have offered students the option to create a website using www.webs.com.
Without using their names (to protect identities) students will create a website to advertise their product they have “invented” and will provide information about this product. Groups will use the SmartBoard to show the class their site when they present the week after Halloween. This project is a culmination of our persuasive and media unit. Mrs. Metzler and Mrs. Galloway will have students’ usernames and passwords and will closely monitor students’ sites and online time at school. Students have used www.webs.com in past years to create excellent websites that demonstrate creativity and understanding of the persuasive and media unit concepts we’ve learned about in class.
As you may no doubt notice from this brief description, we are truly excited about this new tool. As with any online resource, however, we need to be careful to create a safe and secure environment. With that in mind, we would like to remind students and parents about simple Internet safety procedures. Do not share account information or passwords with fellow students. Do not share private information (such as social security numbers) online. Be sure to back up all work on a secondary storage device.
