Social Studies with Mrs. Sutton
The seventh grade social studies curriculum focuses on the Eastern Hemisphere’s geography, history, and culture. We will spend the year learning about Africa, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia, and Asia and the Pacific.
I base all of my grades on percentages. For each daily assignment, quiz, test, and project you will receive a grade. All of these grades will be averaged together based on their weight.
Tests/Projects 45% Daily assignments 35% Quizzes 20% |

Students will be taught how to take notes in social studies. During the first semester I put notes on the board for the students to copy. We discuss how to take notes and find the important details within paragraphs. By second semester I will expect my students to be able to take notes on their own. Students will be allowed to use their notes on tests.
I expect all students to use their assignment notebook which is issued to them at the beginning of the year. I will check assignment notebooks on a regular basis to see that lessons for the day and assignments have been written down. |

Each student will be allowed two incomplete assignments per quarter. Students have until the last grading day of the quarter to hand in those two incompletes and receive full credit for those two assignments. After they have had two incompletes in my grade book they will receive a zero for each incomplete assignment thereafter. This only pertains to daily work. I expect projects to be handed in on the given due date. If projects are late 5% will be deducted each day from the grade they would have received if it had been on time. |
