Dear Parents, I would like to take a moment to update you on the Science classes and what has been happening in my life the past few weeks.  Many of you probably know from your student that I have not been at school for the last several days.  On Wednesday morning, Jan. 30th, while I was contemplating what to do first on our snow day, my phone rang with some awful news.  My Father had collapsed in his hotel room while vacationing with my Mom down in Texas.  A few hours later found me on a flight to Houston and a rental car down to Galveston.  It turns out my Father had suffered a brain aneurysm and was in the ICU.  Fortunately, Galveston is home to the University of Texas Medical School and has one of the best hospitals in the country.  My Father never regained consciousness and after one of the longest weeks of my life, we made the very difficult decision to withdraw life support.  My Dad passed away on Thursday with my Mom and me at his side.  We then had to drive home as they had driven on this vacation and needed to get their car home.  This week will be spent making funeral arrangements and getting my Mother past this dark chapter in her life.  Fortunately, Mr. Eid, my student teacher from the last quarter has been able to substitute for me for the entire time and he has done a superb job.  I will be returning next week Monday and will be at conferences next week.  I will be in occasionally this week to double check things.  Tonight I entered grades for the last few weeks and updated K-12 Planet for those who check this regularly.
