Conflicts are a normal part of life.  Everyone has them!  Students in middle school have A LOT of conflicts because of where they are at physically, emotionally, and socially.  Here are a few tips to help manage conflicts!

USE I FEEL STATEMENTS:  Speak honestly about how you feel. This does not blame anyone else.  Saying “I feel hurt” or “I feel angry” is a great way to maintain control of yourself.

FOLLOW YOUR “I FEEL” WITH A “WHEN”:  Stating your feelings and the specific situation that makes you feel that way is helpful.  Avoid blaming people.  “I feel hurt when I am left out of a conversation” is better than “I feel hurt when you ignore me”

FOLLOW YOUR “WHEN” WITH AN “I WOULD LIKE”:  State your need.  Use the word “I”.  Keep it about you!  “I would like to be included in a game” sounds better than “You always leave me out”
