Parent Support Group

Gifted and Talented Program

Hortonville Area School District

The TAPS (Talented and Promising Students) Parent Group was started a number of years ago by a group of parents as a means to raise awareness about Gifted and Talented children.  They also wanted to establish a program that would employ a full time teacher.  In 1997, Linda Lauper was hired as a full time facilitator for gifted students.  She continues in that capacity.

In their formulative years they started and supported the Market Day program which became a highly successful money maker for them.  Eventually that was turned over to individual schools.  The TAPS Parent Group also conceived and supported the Enrichment Day that was held every year and continues to be part of the districts activities for all students.

The group meets one to two times per month as they look at the gifted program in our district and the policies that affect the gifted students.  The parents continue to strive for awareness of their children and the children’s’ needs.  They find support for each other and their own needs through the group setting.  Articles and books written by the leading authorities in the field of gifted education are shared.  The group is proactive and attends Board of Education meetings.  Anyone wishing to join the group is welcome.
